WORDS FROM SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN PREVIOUS CONFERENCES
“The Asian Lutheran International Conference provided a wonderful opportunity to grow in one’s understanding of Asian culture and current Asian ministries in the United States and Asia. The conference is well organized and conducted. It is a ‘must’ for anyone interested or involved in Asian ministry.”
- Rev. Dr. Sherman Hicks, Executive Director,
Multicultural Ministries, ELCA
"As someone with little direct exposure to ministry in Asia or with Asian immigrants, I found the conference to be some of the best continuing education I have every taken. It was informative, inspiring, challenging, and highly enjoyable! - The Rev. Scott Custead,
Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, PA
“The Asian Lutheran International Conference provided me a great opportunity to interact and learn from International Asian brothers and sisters. It was very good to see and hear about ministry and education in and among our Asian communities. I was able to bring my experience back to my synod and share with congregations and communities in Southeast Iowa where we have a growing Asian population, a congregation that is 75% Asian and another Asian worshipping community”
-The Rev. Dr. Walter May, Executive for Synodical Relations, ELCA
The Asian Lutheran International Conference gave me a mind expanding and eye opening experience for me.” - The Rev. Steve Kanouse,
Director, Evangelical Outreach and CongregationalMission, ELCA
As one who works with several Asian candidates for ministry, I found the Bangkok conference tremendously valuable for gaining many levels of insight and understanding of the variety of Asian cultures, churches, and experiences. The leaders of these churches are huge resources for our global concern to do ministry effectively with Asian people.”-
The Rev. Craig Boehlke, Former Regional 3 Coordinator/ Coordinator for Ministry Lead Luther Seminary
A great time of learning, an even greater time of connecting...the presentation of missional theology, ideas and thought and the networking with Asian Lutheran leaders, global partners, and old and new friends at these events have been both gifts of grace and needed resources. The groundwork for new companion synods and missionaries to our congregations in the US were birthed at ALIC (the Asian Lutheran International Conference) over the past years”
- Bishop Murray Finck, Pacifica Synod, ELCA
The ELCA encourages us to “learn from and walk with our global and ecumenical partners in prayer.” The Asian community is taking it a step further. I am privilege to be at the Asian Lutheran International Conference in Bangkok and I have learned Asian model for growth that may be used by other ethnic communities; seminary readying students to missionary and develop missions within their ethnic communities in the USA. - The Rev. Dr. Kathryn Love
Associate Director for Evangelism, Evangelical Outreach and
Congregational Mission, ELCA
The 4th ALIC gathering in Bangkok last year was my first encounter with so many Southeast Asian Lutherans outside the United States. And the general consensus among us Mission Directors who were there was that we had a much better understanding of these nations in our communities to do purposeful outreach ministry in our Lutheran congregations. This is a 'MUST HAVE' exposure for anyone who desires to do contextual ministry in our ever-changing multiethnic communities.
-The Rev. Dr. George Tan
Assistant to the Bishop and MissionDirector, Southwest California Synod, ELCA
